It's my birthday!

Usually I let Jackie do all of the posting on her blog, but since it is my birthday, I thought I would post to my own blog.

As I said, it is my birthday! I am 12 years old--actually I was 12 years old on July 9, but James and Mama were at Boy Scout camp and we couldn't celebrate until now. I don't mind; I don't usually follow the calendar anyway. The only appointments I ever have are vet and grooming, and Mama keeps track of those.

I didn't always live here in this house. I used to have another home and another little girl who loved me very much. When I was a young dog, my other family used to go away in the summer for a month or more and I would go to a dog kennel.

My mama now worked for the father of my other little girl. One day Mama asked her boss if she could keep me at her home instead of me going to the kennel. She had just lost a cocker spaniel not long before that and was very sad.

There was another dog living with Mama and her family at the time: Max. Max was so sad that his friend was gone and he was worried about being a good watch dog for the family. He barked and barked all of the time, but when I came to help him keep watch, he calmed down and didn't bark so much.

That summer was ten years ago and it was the beginning of many years of staying with Mama and her family for summers and holidays. When I first started coming here, Valerie was a little baby and James was still wearing diapers. It was fun having two families. I had my own girl at home, but I also had two little kids to play with in the summers and Easter and Christmas holidays. Plus I loved my old pal Max.

About five years ago, my girl was all grown up and was ready to go to college. When she went away to school I came to live with Mama and be her personal dog full time. I missed my girl, but sometimes I would go back when she came home from college.

I know am lucky. So many dogs never find a good home at all. I have had two good homes.
